This Purma is certainly Special! As well as its unusual design (even for the thirties)its method of speed selection is rather idiosyncratic. Choosing between the two available speeds is by holding the camera either vertical or horizontal. An American review from 1940 claims that the speeds are 1/25 and 1/450 but I seriously doubt the latter. The shutter is cocked by means of the small lever just above the word "Purma". The f6.3 Beck lens is mounted on a sprung tube which can be retained in the retracted position with a screw-in cap. The cap, like the rest, is made of Bakelite. This 127 camera is marked "Made in England" on the outside and "Made in Great Britain" on the inside"! In 1940 it was distributed in the USA by American Bolex.
